Annual vehicle miles traveled are estimated from annual average daily traffic counts as collected by the state and its partners. Vehicle miles traveled serves as an important metric for planning, maintaining, and improving our region's road network.
Southeast Michigan residents traveled almost 43 billion miles in 2023 for a gain of 1 billion miles (2.4%) over year 2022. But such levels are still 6.1% lower than 2019, when residents traveled almost 46 billion miles.
