The Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program produces annual estimates of population for counties, using current data on births, deaths, and migration. The estimates from previous years are revised with each new release. Changes in population growth informs stakeholders on potential for consumer spending, labor supply, as well as, demand for infrastructure and services.
Southeast Michigan's population grew in 2024, gaining 34,812 people, or 0.7%. With the update to estimates for years 2021-2023, our region now has two straight years of population gain. Our region has also recovered all population lost since 2019 and now has 6,700 more people than it did in 2019.
